Job Posting End Date: August 07

Who are we?

We are Unum - one of the UK's leading employee benefits providers.

We've been around for 50 years, currently protecting over 1.7 million people, providing security and peace of mind to individuals and their families.

With a Fortune 500, US parent company, we're part of highly successful global organisation, sharing ideas and innovations across teams to create a collaborative work environment. We're transforming our business, and we're keen to increase our digital capabilities to evolve the way we work and optimise opportunities for growth.

The role

What will you be doing?

What will you bring?

Our Claims division at Unum is currently building their team. As a Claims Assessor, you'll be responsible for the proactive management of either group income protection, life or critical illness claims. You'll investigate claims through medical and policy information, reach a decision as to initial and continued liability. You'll communicate claims decisions clearly and assist claimants in returning to their normality, providing the financial security and customer support to enable our customers to focus on recovery.

You'll be responsible for a portfolio of claims clients, with a value in the £millions, typically dealing with Senior Executives, such as CEO's and HR Directors as part of your relationship management, no two days are the same.

You may have a Medical, Life, Health, PPI or General Insurance background, or perhaps you have graduated with a psychology degree or something similar. You may have even worked in a professional role previously and taken a career break, to raise a family, for caring responsibilities or to pursue other professional interests.

Most importantly you will be someone who is interested in medical conditions, who is naturally curious and who can demonstrate analytical thinking. You'll have an investigatory mindset, where you can look at patterns and spot consistencies, and make autonomous decisions under pressure.

You'll be great on the telephone, with an ability to form compelling written reports and be confident to present your findings, and you'll be a team player who can deal with conflict and develop effective relationships with key stakeholders. You will also need to be confident in navigating different systems and use them to store and present information.

You'll have the flexibility to work remotely and locate for your day, whether that be working from home, the office or somewhere else to get the job done. Our offices are in Basingstoke and Dorking, initially we will need you to come to an office for training, but after that we anticipate your attendance at an office to be around 2 days per week.
