Your new role, what's involved?

We are seeking Senior and Principal Flood Risk Engineers to join our fast-growing Water Risk Management and Engineering team providing water engineering services for WSP. We will consider candidates from Derby and Birmingham as we have offices in both locations.

As a lead member of the team, you will be responsible for delivering and overseeing projects for local authorities, water companies and major infrastructure clients providing a range of flood risk management related services including:
  • Flood investigation
  • Culvert and drainage investigation, analysis and design
  • Scour assessment and design of mitigation measures
  • River engineering
  • Coastal, pluvial and fluvial flood risk management design (feasibility to detailed design)
  • Canals and navigation on watercourses
  • Reservoirs
  • Coastal erosion
Key responsibilities:
  • Identifying prospective opportunities and leading on the preparation of proposals
  • Providing project, commercial and financial management for projects
  • Undertaking client and stakeholder liaison
  • Technical leadership/design coordination on multidisciplinary projects led by the water team
  • Undertaking Quality Assurance technical reviews in field(s) of expertise
  • Undertaking civil engineering design or the supervision of others
  • Preparation of reports, contract documents, technical specifications and drawings or the supervision of others
  • Mentoring and technical development of others
  • Preparing and delivery of both project and technical presentations

We'd love to hear from you if you have:
  • A Civil Engineering degree
  • Are Incorporated or Chartered Civil Engineer registered with the ICE
  • Commercial awareness and a proven ability working as a project manager under the NEC
  • Good knowledge of safety in design and the designer's responsibilities under CDM 2015
  • Experience in the development and leadership of outline and detailed design of solutions for any of the project types listed above
  • An ability to co-ordinate multi-disciplinary teams in the development of design solutions
  • A sound understanding of hydraulics and proven application in the development of solutions
  • A desire to share knowledge/experience and support the development of others. Ideally acting as an ICE delegated or supervising engineer.
