Your new role, what's involved?

WSP are seeking to fill a number of positions within our 50 strong flood and coastal risk management team in the south-west, supported by over 500 technical staff in the region.. We are a diverse team with a varied and exciting workload across the UK and Internationally including flood defence, coastal, geomorphology, and hydraulic modelling.

Our current portfolio includes leading and supporting some of the largest schemes in the Country such as Milton Keynes East, Yorkshire Energy Park, Looe Tidal Defence Scheme; Barking Riverside and Hinkley Point. With excellent relationships with numerous Developers, Investors and Local Authority clients across the South West and nationally. We are looking to continue to grow our team, building on the work and tools we've recently delivered, including an innovative regional scale flood risk funding tool.

Our water engineering staff are technical leaders, proactive, responsible and collaborative. The successful candidates will become a key part of this national team, dedicated to delivering innovative, lasting solutions to the highest profile challenges faced by our clients.

In this role you will be:
  • Working on a wide variety of water environment and flood risk projects
  • Helping to develop our offering in these strategically important areas and progress to more senior roles
  • Being responsible for technical, management and commercial aspects of projects.
  • Leading a variety of flood risk and water management projects for a range of clients
  • Support on advising clients with challenging flood and water management issues
  • Site visits to assess flood risk -often providing key advice in transactions and strategic decision making
  • Supporting our Senior Leadership Team in delivering the highest quality of water management projects
  • Provide direct project management and client administration support to our senior leadership team
  • Undertake own continuing professional development with support from the team.
  • Help mentor and support our junior staff in developing their technical skills
  • Operate in accordance with the corporate health and safety, environmental and quality standards.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

Candidates should have a Civil Engineering, Geography or Environmental degree with continued professional development - preferably chartered with a recognised institution and with a track record in flood risk management.

As we are looking for a number of candidates, applicants do not need experience in all the aspects below but should be proficient in a number of areas including:
    • Excellent written and verbal communication.
    • Technical expertise in one or more of the following areas:
      • Environmental Impact and Water Framework Directive assessment;
      • Flood Risk Assessment;
      • Hydrology;
      • Fluvial hydraulic modelling (site appraisal through to the application of modelling in feasibility and design);
      • Feasibility studies and appraisal / business cases;
      • River engineering and scour assessment;
      • Engineering design;
      • Sustainable foul and surface water drainage design
    • Good IT skills are paramount, Experience of flood modelling software and GIS tools would be beneficial but not essential.
    • Commercial experience, including project management and bid preparation.
    • Ability to work within and lead multidisciplinary teams.
    • Relevant experience of delivering infrastructure projects or working with local authority/national government.
    • Drive and ability to build client relationships and develop suitable opportunities.
