Basic salary up to £120,000 pa plus bonus and benefits
UK – any location nationally with regular travel

Our client is a well-known provider of a variety of solutions and services to the industrial, manufacturing and process sectors. With revenues firmly in the billions of pounds range, the business employs thousands of people across an international network of offices and possesses an enviable customer base. Our client continues to expand both organically and through acquisition, with this including growth through the COVID pandemic.

As part of its portfolio, our client’s offers a suite of maintenance and associated services including predictive activities, condition based monitoring, calibration, lubrication, testing and inspection. While a relatively new addition to the portfolio, these services are considered one of core pillars of the company’s strategy, growth and future direction.

Reporting to the Managing Director UK & Ireland and so a member of the regional leadership team, our client is seeking to appoint to the post of Operations Director. Accountabilities will include:

• Assuming responsibility for and providing leadership to our client’s business providing industrial maintenance and associated services.

• Defining, implementing and delivering the business’ strategies and visions for the UK and Ireland, ensuring they actively develop, harmonise, optimise and promote the service offerings. This will include creating the disruptive and innovative approaches that will differentiate our client in the marketplace and conceptualising new ideas that will deliver value.

• Overseeing, co-ordinating and managing the delivery of services to customers. This will involve ensuring that all contracts, projects and services are delivered seamlessly, effectively, flawlessly and profitably, pursuing transformation that optimises efficiency and the customer experience, ensuring risk and governance compliance, and defining and implementing professional standards, disciplines and policies including those related to quality, health and safety, on-time delivery, reporting and issue resolution.

• Leading approximately seventy people in the delivery of services to customers, ensuring they are provided with clearly defined and measurable objectives, are engaged and perform to established levels. Additionally, to see these personnel have the administrative support, knowledge management, personal development, training and incentivisation they require.

• Supporting sales efforts by providing advice, solutions and guidance as an internal subject matter expert and by acting as the “conscience” to sales by ensuring that bids and tenders contain realistic, deliverable yet market leading solutions and propositions that truly satisfy customers’ needs.

• Supporting the management of customer relationships, particularly by ensuring that appropriate service levels are delivered and that problems / incidents are resolved. To participate in service reviews as appropriate, to assist in the definition and delivery of service improvement initiatives and to help resolve any strategic risks.

• Contributing as a member of the UK and Ireland leadership team to the direction of the region and the creation and delivery of the wider go-to-market strategy. This may include, for example, identifying inorganic growth activities, providing input into the creation of new offerings and solutions, and contributing to planning.

• Establishing, maintaining and improving relationships with peers and key stakeholders across our client, including with members the executive and regional leadership teams and peers in numerous commercial and technical functions. To work collaboratively on joint initiatives with all parties where appropriate, encouraging continuous improvement, consistency and alignment.

• Building and growing relationships with strategic suppliers and partners as appropriate.

The Operations Director may be based anywhere in the UK. Regular national and occasional international travel will be required.

The appointee will possess a proven and successful track record in a senior operations, engineering, maintenance, service, solution delivery or similar position. This should include experience of managing teams of people, of driving continuous improvement and of meeting demanding targets, as well as in-depth knowledge of industrial maintenance considerations. The appointee should possesses a background working either a) for a large, ideally complex, multi-site manufacturing, industrial or process business across any sector, or b) a company that provides industrial services such as plant or machinery maintenance, condition based monitoring, test and inspection, calibration, etc, either in support of its own product portfolio or as a third party service provider.
