The role:

We’re currently hiring a Senior Developer. This role is part of a team of Software Engineers working in an Agile/Scrum software development environment specializing in healthcare solutions based from home with some travel to the office in Gloucestershire.

The Senior Developer will have a high degree of knowledge and experience in various software development fields and will share this experience and knowledge to provide expert-level insight for software development activities.

You will determine the most appropriate technological ways of implementing new features and enhancing existing ones. Work closely with the Software Engineering team Manager and Application Architect to help continuously improve the team's software development activities.

The application architect has in-depth technical and business domain knowledge in many areas of the ICNet clinical software suite.

What you'll be doing:

Senior Developers are collectively responsible for defining, educating and implementing the coding standards the department will observe alongside programming “best practice”.

Senior developers will also largely decide acceptable design patterns, tools, and techniques to be employed to perform common operations such as caching, queuing, logging, persistence and security.

All activities in the SDLC will be undertaken, and the senior developer should be capable of anticipating performance and scalability issues pre-implantation.

Communicate optimally with clients, peers and especially junior developers who will require mentoring.

The Senior Developer is also required to undertake 3rd-line support tasks, diagnosing and rectifying issues on customer systems.

What you'll bring to the role:

Computer Science degree or equivalent qualifications/experience

English and Mathematics GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalents)

A minimum of 7 - 10 years' commercial experience with PHP, relational databases (MySQL / MS SQL Server) and front-end web technologies

The ability to optimally communicate in a clear, positive and professional manner to all levels, from customers and peers to director level

Good analytical and problem-solving skills

High level of digital literacy

The ability to explain technical solutions clearly

Motivation to continue to improve one's knowledge and skills

Desirable experience:

Be able to work in a fast-paced environment

Knowledge of the healthcare sector, including software products crafted for clinical use

Experience with JIRA, Confluence and/or Bamboo



PHP certification

Use of jQuery and other JavaScript frameworks

Use of Zend framework

Python

Java

Use of version control (preferably Git)

IIS configuration and troubleshooting

Familiarity with Agile Scrum

Mentoring skills
